Newport Beach is an expansive sandy flat that lies within
Orange County, California. It featured heavily in the drop out beach culture of
the sixties, so much so that full time surfer is a respectable job in these parts. Apart
from surfers, the shallows are frequented by whales and seals, while the shore
is popular with sunbathers, volley ball players and the odd Baywatch lifeguard.
The pier is a tourist attraction in its own right, the seafood restaurant Ruby's
on its far end the perfect place to watch the sun hit the sea.
