Port Phillip Bay is located at the middle bottom end
of Victoria and is surrounded by the city of Melbourne and its suburbs. It is
a large body of water connected to Bass Strait by a narrow passage known infamously
as 'The Rip" due to the dangerous tidal forces created by the large amount
of water passing back and forth twice a day. The bay, protected from the ocean,
is a popular family swimming location with places like St Kilda, Brighton and
Sorrento heavily populated on hot summer days. |
